Reading Through the Entire Bible- 2 Kings 6

#BibleReading Family

2 Kings 6

I have lost track of what week we are on, but we are in 2 Kings. Last week we came to chapter 6 and a passage that I just love.

When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

There is just so much in this chapter overall, but this is the part that has always comforted me and when I read it this time, aloud to my family, I was comforted once more.

At any given time, we may have fear or doubts or worry. Yet God sees a bigger picture so much more than we do. He and His army are there even when we don’t see it. Sometimes in this dark world, I just want to crumble at the latest news headlines. Yet, reading this made me realize, “Those who are with us or more than those who are with them.”

God wins. The end. Even when we feel defeated here on earth or this world looks dark, He is working. We may not see it, but His army is far bigger and better than anything in this world.

Praise the Lord that we worship the God of truth in this world and the One who ultimately will defeat all the darkness around us. We never need to fear.

And in the everyday fears and worries, we can remember that His army is right there, providing protection and provision for us.

Reading through the Bible together is such a gift. Even through busy times lately, we have at least managed a chapter each day. I am not concerned with how long it will take us to read through the entire Bible, but that we will complete it. What a gift we will have. We will all be able to say we shared this experience together, as a family. Praise the Lord.
