Reading The Entire Bible as a Family- Week 6

Reading through the entire Bible as a family

We finished Leviticus! Woo Hoo! Can you hear me shouting from there? 😉 It was truly one of the most blessed times ever in the Word. And just a few weeks back, I was wondering if we should skip over the book because it might be too difficult for the little kids, and the bigs ones…Ok, and maybe us! 😉 No, really. Leviticus has so many hard topics with the laws and ceremonies, and some things that are just not child-friendly. But I was convicted that God’s Word never returns void and He has a purpose in every word.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:9 (ESV)

And, boy were we blessed. I mean, to sit down and really dig through the book and make so many connections to the New Testament and to Jesus. I was left wondering…”Why haven’t we done this sooner?”

We used commentary to navigate most of the chapters, which was extremely helpful. I could study this book all day long. I am not even kidding. There is just so much in there that reveals God’s character and nature. Yet, if I hadn’t had the commentary, admittedly, it would have all been quite confusing. I am really glad I chose to use it along with just reading.

As we navigate through this journey, one thought keeps crossing my mind. What a blessing this is for me, but as I look to the future, I am grateful that one day my kids can look back and see this gift we gave them. That they have read through the entire Bible, and not just read through it, but together as a family.

Can you imagine the transformation that will take place if families all over would do this?

It is only fitting that our verse we chose for the year is Romans 12:2.

Do not be conformed to this world,[ but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)

We didn’t know at the time we chose that verse that we’d be reading through the entire Bible together this year, but God did. He is so, so good!
