A God Centered Homeschool is Seeing His Love in Action- Teaching What Matters Most

Teach Love

A Bible based homeschool is about much more than just what we are studying and what resources we are using. While we are transformed by being in the Word, our actions that take place as part of that transformation are teaching our children just as much.

Homeschooling as a family with God at the center is a way to teach our children so much about who God is and what His love looks like for us. There are some lessons that can be taught only through experience and seeing it in action. There are things that just aren’t meant to be taught in books…

Everyday we teach our children.

We teach sacrifice.

We teach patience.

We teach gentleness

We teach meekness.

We teach humility.

We teach selflessness.

We teach kindness.

We teach perseverance.

We teach diligence.

We teach forgiveness.

We teach mercy.

We teach respect.

Learning together as a family provides opportunities for many sweet moments, yet we all know there are many not-so- sweet-we-wish-we-could-forget-moments.  Yet God works through it all. He works in the good moments, and He grows us through the hard ones.

Our kids can see His love in action. When we serve daily, putting others needs above ourselves, we are showing selflessness. Daily we do those chores which seem so mundane, yet they are all part of the teaching- teaching to serve, and service is never luxurious. It is always sacrificial. When we put them first over ourselves, when we serve our families, they get a glimpse of Him. With each load of laundry, pile of dishes washed, school lesson taught…we are serving.

When we teach them to resolve disputes with each other, it shows God’s forgiveness. How can we not forgive our brothers when Jesus forgave all? Point to Him in every dispute and how He wants us to treat each other. When we handle conflicts with a meek and quiet spirit, rather than uncontrolled anger, it teaches self control and humility.

When our kids see us persevere through the trials, and do so with a cheerful heart, we teach them how to handle the curveballs that life can through us at anytime. It teaches them to rely on God through the trials and to cling to the only One who can sustain us.

When they see us love and respect our husbands it is teaching them a godly relationship-what a lesson for their future! Taking time to serve our spouse, respecting them, and our letting our daily interactions be loving are so important for them to see.

As you ponder these thoughts, are you feeling inadequate at the so many times you have failed to teach these things? I know I sure do. Often. Yet, there is the beauty of teaching the one most important lesson of all… His forgiveness and our repentance. We can show our children that we are never perfect, yet He gives us the chance to come to Him in our most humble imperfections to be renewed and restored and forgiven…

Yes, we are truly teaching so much about God through our actions..His love, His mercy, and His forgiveness.. Our homes are the classroom through which these lessons are learned…
